Definitely enough reason to fire him! I'm amazed at the things that people say and find to be normal. But this does bring up an important issue - his comments had nothing to do with his work, nor were they made in a workplace forum. There have been many cases of people losing employment due to their actions outside of the workplace.

This may be something worthwhile to research further. 30 years ago you would be able to behave a complete 180 from who you are at your workplace, and keep it private with relative ease. With so many public forums out there today, the line between private and public lives is blurred. Should you able to be "yourself" outside your workplace and not risk termination? What do you guys think?
